Community Service
Each year FCRTA has in some way tried to give back to the community by means of a community service project. By holding book drives in our schools, we’ve been able to donate books to some of our schools that need resources. Last year FCRTA awarded classroom library grants to members’ schools that demonstrated need.
Staff Development
FCRTA has been fortunate to co-host top-notch staff development with the help of the Fairfax Educational Association (FEA). In the past we’ve helped defray the cost for our members to attend such featured literacy authors such as Stephanie Harvey, Janet Allen, Richard Allington, Barry Lane, Ralph Fletcher, Linda Hoyt, and most recently, Chris Tovani. Next year, we are very excited to be featuring Ellin Oliver Keene, the co-author of Mosaic of Thought.
Website Improvements
FCRTA is continually in the process of updating its website so that it can be a resource to all visitors. We hope you will enjoy the “comprehension strategy book list” created a few years ago, as well as the new “author visit evaluations” and “book recommendations” that we will soon be adding. Please feel free to let us know your ideas on how we can make this resource even more valuable.
